Ghana optimistic ahead of Rio Paralympics

Ghana’s team for Rio Paralympics are upbeat about their chances of grabbing laurels at the event. 

Following a disappointing campaign by the Ghana Olympic team, the para-athletes are bent on making the nation proud. 

According the director general of the National Sports Authority, who doubles as chef de mission, Saka Acquaye told journalists in Accra that the team is all but set to fetch some pride for the national flag. 

He is however counting on corporate entities and the media to rally support for the paralympic team.

“we did so well in congo, in fact we took more than half of the medals at the games”. Said Mr. Acquaye.

“That is why I appeal to corporate bodies and the media to give us their support”. He added.

The Ghana team will embark on a trip to Brazil in the Coming weeks for the Rio Paralympics which begins 7th – 18th September 2016.

GHANA SET FOR IHF CHAMPIONSHIP IN TOGO

Ghana's National Handball team are set to embark on 7 day visit to Togo for the Zone 3 West Africa Championship.  


The 'Black Fingers' travel on Sunday for the tournament slated for Monday 21st August to 27th August 2016. 


Team Ghana comprises a total of 37 players and officials who will make the trip.


National Coach George Bankole tells  SA SPORTS 360 "the tournament is a developmental programme by IHF (International Handball Federation) for youth development".


The Championship features West African neighbours including the host nation Togo, Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Benin and others. 


Winner of the zone will meet other Zonal Champions at an inter zonal championship to be held in Europe early next year. 

GREATER ACCRA RUGBY ELECT NEW EXECUTIVES

Greater Accra has elected new members to steer affairs for the Rugby Regional Association for the new term of administration.

 

Following a creditably transparent elections held at the Accra Sports Stadium, Abdul Aziz Issah emerged the New president of the Greater Accra Regional Rugby Association, GARA after he polled nine (9) votes against his opponent Abdul Samad Said who had four.

 

Other portfolios were contested unopposed and candidates unanimously confirmed for their positions. Emmanuel Linford Owusu for Vice President whiles Gifty Kukua Aggrey becomes the new Secretary General. Amuzuloh Abdul Salim was confirmed for technical director with Omar Sherrif Captan as the Public Relations Officer and Nizar El-Aschkar, treasurer. Ako Wilson and Rafatu Inusah are executive members of the new administration. 

 

President elect Abdul Aziz Issah told SA SPORTS 360 they want to make the association attractive to the corporate world. 

 

"The main problem of all the other sports is the issue financing and we are bent on making the association attractive to attract sponsorship from corporate world", he said.

 

"Over the period, we have received massive support from (Ghana Rugby Football Union) the mother Association and we believe it's time to take a step to make ourselves self sufficient". Mr. Aziz further stated. 

 

The new administration is effective immediately and will be in office for the next four years.
