GHANAIAN ATHLETES FOR SCHORLARSHIP ABROAD

Nine Ghanaian  athletes left  Accra for  the USA on Sunday to  take up Academic  Scholarships, with two more expected to depart onTuesday.



Elizabeth Dadzie and

 Adelaide Nkrumah are set 

for Iowa Central College. 


The trio of Daniel Gyasi 

(400m runner), Mary Quayson (200m/100m) and Janet Amponsah are bound for Western Texas College. 


Sprinter Shadrack Adu-Gyamfi, and long/middle distance runners Lydia Atta Afia

Mato, Sampson Azumah, and Agnes Abu are headed for Barton County College.
Two more athletes are expected to leave Accra for the USA on Tuesday.

James Kwesi Appiah: The first Ghanaian to lead the Black Stars to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN OF THE YEAR

Ben Nunoo–Mensah – (Chairman of the Ghana Weightlifting Association) – For his role in the promotion and development of weightlifting in Ghana. He led the National Weightlifting team, the Black Cranes to win 19 medals in the 2013 Africa Weightlifting Championship in Morocco.

HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Clifford Aboagye – (Footballer) World U 20 bronze ball winner 2013

PROMISING STAR OF THE YEAR

NATIONAL TEAM OF THE YEAR

The Black Satellites: For winning silver at the 2013 Africa Youth Championship and Bronze and the FIFA Under-20 Tournament.

WEIGHTLIFTER OF THE YEAR

Juliana Arku: won six (6) silver medals two (2) bronze medals 63-kilo category.

BADMINTON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Abraham Ayittey - He won Gold Medal in the Men’s single event at the just ended Morocco Junior (U-18) Badminton International Championship in Casablanca, Morocco and won Gold in South Africa Badminton Championship in 2013

SWIMMER OF THE YEAR

Ophelia Swayne - Ghana’s Youth Olympic hopeful, clinched two medals at the Lagos International Swimming Classics. Won GOLD in the 50m butterfly in 29:73secs and grabbed SILVER in the 100m butterfly.
